Mike Gentile began rowing for the Detroit Boat Club as a junior in 1989 and went on to compete as a varsity lightweight at Rutgers University. He trained under Tom Terhaar, the former United States Women’s Olympic Team coach, and later coached in Boston at Brookline High School and Riverside Boat Club. He has served as the women’s coach for Detroit Boat Club Crew since 2016.

Molly Packer
Assistant Junior Coach

Molly Packer began rowing for Detroit Boat Club Crew in 2010 and competed as a varsity athlete at Drake University. Molly returned to DBCC as an assistant coach in 2021 and holds a Level 2 coaching certification from USRowing.

Eric Dilworth
Assistant Junior Coach
(2021 – Present)
Eric Dilworth started rowing in high school with Detroit Boat Club Crew and continued competing at Grand Valley State University. He began his coaching career with the City of Detroit’s learn-to-row program and later coached competitive juniors at Rockford High School. in 2023, he joined Texas Rowing Center as Head Varsity Boys Coach and USRowing’s Selection Development team as an assistant coach before returning to Detroit in 2025.

Amber Selke
Adult Recreational/Learn to Row Coach
(2024 – Present)
Amber began rowing at the University of Michigan, where she competed for four years before transitioning to coaching at Boston College in 1990 while training for the U.S. lightweight national team. In 1994, she moved to California and spent three years coaching the girls’ team at Berkeley High School, followed by roles at Marin Rowing Club, North Bay Rowing, and Saint Mary’s College. A career highlight took her to New Zealand, where she served as a rowing development officer. She also pursued a spot at the 2000 Olympic trials. Today, Amber calls Detroit home and is dedicated to coaching all who come through the doors of Detroit Boat Club Crew.

Inga Sabourin
Assistant Junior Coach
(2025 – Present)
Began rowing for the Detroit Boat Club as a junior rower in 1989. Rowed varsity for Boston University. Inga returned to DBCC as an assistant coach in 2025. Inga wears the hat of a rowing parent.

Ben Scrace
Utility Coach
(2021 – Present)
Ben began rowing for the Detroit Boat Club as a junior in 1990 and went on to compete as a varsity athlete for Northeastern University and Lake Union Crew. He has coached at Rice University, the City of Tempe, and Lake Union Crew before returning to DBCC in 2021 as an assistant coach, supporting the team wherever needed. In addition to coaching, Ben brings the perspective of a dedicated rowing parent.

Richard Bell, PhD
Head Coach Emeritus
(1971 – Present)
Dick Bell began rowing at the Detroit Boat Club in 1959 before launching his coaching career in 1971. He has coached dozens of national champion crews and trained multiple rowers to become world champions. Bell rowed collegiately for Wayne State University and served as the 1980 Men’s Olympic Sculling Coach for the United States.
